As I am sure you know, Microsoft has launched Windows 10 today. I was listening to German radio this morning and it was all over their news, so I imagine that this is a global story.

According to Microsoft: “Windows 10 is familiar and easy to use, with lots of similarities to Windows 7 including the Start menu. It starts up and resumes fast, has more built-in security to help keep you safe, and is designed to work with software and hardware that you already have.”

Windows 10 marks a new era for personal computing, according to Microsoft’s chief executive who has been interviewed by the BBC here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-33698290

The software works on computers, tablets and perhaps most importantly – mobiles.
Windows 10 will be offered as a free upgrade to most consumers.

Are you a Microsoft fan? I am, partly because I have visited their offices in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Portugal, Turkey and the UK during a project I was doing for them a little while ago. I liked the people I met and I think that Bill Gates’ vision of a computer on every desk has made a positive impact on the world around us.

I sold some of the first PCs to arrive in the UK marketplace in 1981. Does anyone remember DOS and MSDOS? Having a conceptual understanding of how operating systems and application software works has been helpful to me, throughout my career to date. For example, it helped me to get me a job as a technical copywriter (mostly computing clients).

Personally, I think that every business owner and marketer needs to understand how computer systems work. We live in digital economy and hardware, operating systems and application software help you to communicate in a myriad of ways which were unavailable when I was studying for my marketing degree in the late 1970s.

From a marketing perspective, you need to ensure that your website behaves properly in Windows 10. If you have a WordPress website and have a responsive theme, you should be fine.

I would be most interested to hear what you think of WIndows 10!
