Should you keep your marketing going in August?

Everyone is away in August, aren’t they? In the UK we have had a heatwave, so who can be bothered to read marketing messages anyway?

Oh yes and apparently in the UK we are officially in recession, so we might as well all give up and go home.

Except that many of us are already at home because of the pandemic.

Why not give up now?

If you are still reading this, I’m going to assume that my best endeavours have failed and that you are not going to give up.

Mind you, neither am I.

I have lost count of the number of recessions, problems and disasters that I have lived through so far.

It helps that I am a fanatical optimistic of course.

Let’s return to the August question (which I asked yesterday within The Marketing Compass website and thank you for all the responses there).

The answer is that yes, you should keep marketing regardless of the month or what is happening ‘out there’.

We are not like France, where virtually everything shuts down during the summer month of August and they head for the beach.

Many buying decisions are made at this time of year and are implemented in September.

In general terms, promotion does not work on a stop start basis.

It takes several attempts to get your message across into the mind of the customer.

If your competitors are slowing down in August. then this is your opportunity to be heard.

Yes, the economy has diminished, but there is still a lot of economy left.

According to The Times, we have had two quarters of pandemic driven recession and we are already rising up out of it.

The customers are out there.

They want to hear from you.

Don’t give up and never stop marketing.
