What are AI Agents?

AI agents are systems that can take action on your behalf. Unlike a simple chatbot that responds to a single prompt, an AI agent can plan, decide and complete multi-step tasks with limited supervision.

Using tools such as ChatGPT, an AI agent can analyse information, generate content, search documents and in general, ‘do stuff for you’. It works towards a defined goal rather than producing a one-off answer.

For example, instead of asking ChatGPT to draft one email, an AI agent could review your CRM, identify warm prospects, draft personalised emails and schedule follow-ups. You set the objective. The agent handles the process.

HOW AI AGENTS WORK

An AI agent typically:

* Receives a goal
* Breaks it into steps
* Uses tools to reason and generate outputs
* Takes action across systems
* Reviews results and adapts

The key shift is from prompt-response to goal-driven execution.

BENEFITS FOR BUSINESS

AI agents offer several advantages:
* Time savings through automation of repetitive work
* Consistency in communication and reporting
* Scalability without increasing headcount
* Faster decision support using real-time analysis
* Improved follow-through on sales and marketing tasks

They are particularly useful in sales pipelines, content production, research and customer service.

CONCLUSION

ChatGPT is often the reasoning engine behind these agents. When combined with data and workflow tools, it moves from being a writing assistant to becoming a digital team member.

AI agents do not replace judgement. They extend capability.
