Why Claude Design is a breakthrough for busy marketers
The software makes it easier for busy marketers to produce designs, slides, landing pages, lead magnets and other forms of marketing collateral.
Claude Design is a new Anthropic Labs product that lets you work with Claude AI to create polished visual work. You type what you are looking for. Claude produces an initial version. You then guide it using chat, inline comments or live sliders.
For a busy marketer who is in a hurry, this is helpful.
Your brand voice
During the onboarding process, Claude builds a design system for you by learning about your brand. Subsequent projects use your colours, typography and components automatically. The brand rules are inside the AI.
The marketing process gets faster
For marketers juggling several design tasks at the same time, that is a real benefit.
Bring in other tools
You are not locked into Claude. Share designs as an internal URL within your organisation, save as a folder, or export to Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files.
Non designers can use it
Non-designers including business owners or marketing executives can create branded assets using AI chat. You can produce branded visual work without booking a designer for every single job.
The effect on graphic designers
Although Claude Design is an interesting and innovative tool, it will take a while for marketers and, in particular, business owners to hear about it. Both groups are extremely busy and I am not sure how many of them will want to actually design things themselves. After all, there are so many hours in the day. Perhaps the best approach graphic designers can take is to offer even more value to their clients and to be more proactive. It is going to take the AI a long time before it can compete on that level.
Conclusion
Claude Design is currently in research preview. Collaboration is basic and not yet fully multiplayer. The editing experience could be improved. However in the fast moving world of AI, it will only get better.
The software allows you to produce more collateral. For original thinking, you still need a professional concept creator. Sometimes this role is a separate one in a design agency and would usually be undertaken by the creative director. Some graphic designers are excellent concept creators.
