Tasks in ChatGPT – OpenAI enters the Virtual Assistant market

OpenAI has entered the Virtual Assistant market with a beta feature in ChatGPT called Tasks. Paying users can set reminders and schedule future actions.

This new feature allows users to create one-time or recurring tasks, such as research or important reminders.

To use this feature, select ‘ChatGPT-4o with scheduled tasks’ in ChatGPT, using the model dropdown at the top of the screen. You can then specify the desired action and times in the context window.

ChatGPT may start to suggest tasks based on your interactions with the AI, which you can choose to accept or decline.

Use cases

  • ‘Do some research on (subject) and report back to me at 9:00am tomorrow morning’
  • ‘Tell me about the latest developments in (industry) every morning at (time)’
  • ‘Tell me about any mentions of (your company name) as and when you find them’

Currently, you can only have up to 10 tasks running at any one time. To see your Tasks, click on your avatar in the top right hand corner of the screen and click on ‘Tasks’. A list of your current Tasks will appear. From there, you can change the timings and pause or delete your Tasks.

Whilst you are setting up a new Task, you will see an option that allows for Task Notifications.

Coming soon: “We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents ‘join the workforce’ and materially change the output of companies.” ~ Sam Alman, CEO of OpenAI
